Changzhou Municipal Government has signed a new contract with WELLE Group for the investment, design, construction and operation management of the expansion project of Changzhou Food Waste Collection, Transportation and Disposal Project (Phase I). With a total value of ¥167 million, this contract will provide concession operation service until 2044 and the expansion project will process 220 tons of food waste and 500 tons of sewage per day.

This expansion facility is the second food waste treatment project planned by Changzhou Government for the ambition to increase the food waste treatment capacity and improve ecological civilization in Changzhou. In July 2013, WELLE was selected to design, build and operate the city’s first food waste treatment project which was officially launched in December 2015. Equipped with the world’s leading process, it effectively reduces the solid slag, wastewater, odor and other pollutants produced during the processing and it can separate and utilize the organic matter in food waste at the same time, which realizes the recovery of crude oil from food waste.

On June 19th, 2017, the Phase I Project passed the acceptance of the national pilot city for utilization and hazard-free treatment of food waste. On January 8th, 2019, it passed the acceptance of the demonstration project of science and technology of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, which set a "National Model" and "Changzhou Sample" for the treatment of food waste.

Based on the experience of Phase I Project, the objective of the expansion project is to enhance the treatment capacity coping with the increasing volume of food waste. According to statistics, the monthly processing capacity of the Phase I project increased from 4,453 tons in 2016 to 6,250 tons in 2017, 7,358 tons in 2018 and 8,167 tons in 2019, which is far beyond the design capacity of 200 t/d. The expansion project will double the food waste treatment capacity of the plant to reach 400 tons per day.

This contract strengthens WELLE’s presence in the fast-growing food waste treatment market in China and it also boosts our partnership with the government of Changzhou. We are fully committed to continuing to support the circular economy and sustainable development by providing solutions and services for the food waste treatment.
